Joining a class requires commitment and dedication, therefore it is
important for students to attend each class. This becomes
particularly important as routines are prepared for recitals. We ask
that you call the studio if you know you or your child will be absent.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT
Ages 3 and 4
The creative movement class uses imaginative, fun musical
activities to build strength, flexibility, and body awareness and improve
gross motor skills, coordination, and posture. Special musical activities
help develop a sense of rhythm and an awareness of the rich language of
music. Children also learn to share space, time, and attention with
others.
•
PRE-DANCE:
Ages 4 and 5
This class introduces children to ballet and tap basics and
terminology. It is more structured than the creative movement class and
includes simple barre and center floor work, to help develop strength and
flexibility.
This class aids in the development of creative thinking
skills and encourages self-confidence and self-esteem. The children learn
an immense amount about music and rhythm and will gain a foundation of the
artistry of both ballet and tap disciplines.
•
PRE-BALLET:
Ages 5 - 7 •
BALLET:
Ages
8 and up
This class builds the ultimate foundation for all other
forms of dance. Ballet requires the most discipline and dedication, but
it is also the most rewarding.
The pre-ballet class introduces children to ballet basics
and terminology. It is more structured than the pre-dance class and
includes simple barre work, floor activities and center work with basic
ballet steps and body directions to help develop strength and flexibility.
The ballet class incorporates comprehensive barre work,
center floor work and combinations across the floor that will help shape
the students’ body and mind. With a solid ballet foundation, students can
transfer their skills into jazz, lyrical, or any other form of dance.
Accomplishing that solid ballet foundation is crucial to becoming an
outstanding dancer in any dance form.
•
TAP: Ages
5 and up
The tap class is the most rhythmic of the dance forms. It
is an excellent way to increase coordination of the mind and body and to
develop a sense of rhythm, timing and expression. Classes begin at the
barre, making introduction and mastery of new steps easier for the
student. Barre work is followed by center work and across the floor
movements, both incorporating various combinations of tap steps and
rhythmic patterns. These combinations and patterns become longer and more
complex as the students’ tap skills progress. Various musical styles,
including classic and contemporary, are introduced to broaden musical
vocabulary and teach different time signatures and rhythms.
•
JAZZ: Ages
5 and up
Jazz is a more traditional form of upbeat dancing, using a
strong balance of fast-paced movements with a ballet foundation. The art
of jazz is truly enhanced with an understanding and discipline in ballet.
•

fundamentals including placement of arms, motion, technique, jumps, voice,
facial expression and overall execution.

MUSICAL THEATER:
Ages 7 and up

music, song, dance, and spoken dialogue. This class will focus the

feeling, movement, and various dance techniques.
•
LYRICAL
(upon instructor approval)
Lyrical dance is the fusion of ballet and jazz technique.
Expression from the inner emotion is a primary factor in choreography and
interpreting this art form. A key element in looking at a lyrical piece
is seeing the movements done in a flowing or continuous pattern. Lyrical
dance interprets music or words, showing the emotion of the particular
piece. The lines are traditional in nature with a technique base that
determines the correct placement of the body angles.
•
POINTE
(upon instructor approval)
The pointe class is the most demanding class both
physically and mentally. Students must have a solid ballet background and
a desire to achieve the grace and beauty of pointe work. Placement in
this class is dependent upon the student’s strength and execution, however
students must have completed at least 3 years of ballet training.
